There is good info to find here but the forum is not very lively. I am from The Netherlands. If you have a '74 your bike should be equiped with an adjustable balancer chain tensioner, an oil cooler and a deeper sump. The oil filter mod is a good idea because the original filter does not deserve the name filter and are impossible to find anymore. These are the most important upgrades as well as a good quality synthetic oil. Some make parts for a paper filter modification. It is not very complicated. You should be able to make one yourself if you have a friend with a lathe. There are other minor modifications too once you have found the need to open up the engine. Good luck with your bike.

Hi Andy. Lots of luck in finding the oil filter adapter which uses BMW type filters. I have been looking for 2 years now with no luck. There was a guy who was going to make them about 3 years ago. I sent him a message about 2+ years ago but never heard back. I have two late model TX engines which I fully rebuilt. One is in my fully restored '74 tx I made up, from an old filter, a loop out of 3/8" copper which loops back the oil and eliminates the filter. I don't like it but until I get a filter adapter it will have to do. There is a fairly effective oil screen in the sump which I clean out regular. I would suggest dropping your sump and cleaning it. Get a factory manual which is arguably the worst factory manual I have ever used. Most of my experience is on Honda's (CBX) which have excellent manuals. The only thing my TX needs is good front and rear fenders, mine are rotted out so if you see any let me know.

If you use the Search box and enter( Oil Filter) you will find reference to a Swiss Guy and Kultmotors who make an adaptor using BMW filters. Just saying thats how I sorted mine in 2022....
