Recently I fitted an electronic ignition system to my Honda Cafe racer and the difference it made is amazing so I am looking to do the same with the TX, I have found the Sachse version which states it is for the TX750 but it is £350 which seems a bit excessive as the one for the Honda was £95, after looking around a bit I found one at Yambits for the XS650 (link below) and was wondering if anyone has tried this version or knows if the XS650 ignition system is the same as the TX750 ? yambits.co.uk/xs650-newtronics-electronic-ignition-system-p-23731.html-Bob

Hi Bob
Great to see that your bike is now running - result
If the points plate is the same size, then I would suggest that this newtronics system would work. It's worth discovering if there is a difference in the full ignition advance between the 650 and 750, just to be certain, but anything is likely to be better than old points, ancient condensers and a mechanical advance

I got a reply from Autocar and it's no good for the TX750, no explanation of why it won't work, just said it won't work, whilst I was waiting for them to replay I visited a few forums and it seems they are quite fickle anyway, apparently they are prone to pickup failures and quite often drop to one cylinder, on the Honda Twin forum they get a right savaging.

I'd guess that they would not want to say it would work if they'd never tested it on the TX750- otherwise they would not be able to support it for that application. There would be no reason why it wouldn't work on one twin but not another. If the pickups fail on twins, though, it might be down to vibrations, which may be less likely on the TX?

Had another run on the TX today. Not smoking as much as it did. Not sure the motor sounds too good.

No reason why a Newtronic system won’t work on a TX. You need the mechanical advance mechanism of course but it’s doable. The chopper disc needs to be adapted to the ADV mech.

Just to say. I have had a Newtronic system on my 400/4 for 25yrs. No problems. The system for the XS650 will work but, the backplate won’t fit in the hole on the TX. That’s why they advise against it.
