I have completed a complete rebuild of my '74 TX. Looks really good! I do all my own work and have rebuilt the original, fully updated engine. I have set balance shaft chain tension as per the manual but I still want to do it when running. The manual states to tighten it untill noise increases then back it off. If anyone has done this, how much noise can be expected before backing the adjuster off???
As a side note how things have changed. I picked a spare '74 updated engine with only 800 miles on it (wreck) for 75$$ about 15 years ago from a cycle wrecking yard... How things change!!

I did this several times. Start engine with normal set tension. The sound you hear is the benchmark. Increase tension until the chain starts "wheeping". You will definitely hear this. Lower tension back to benchmark sound and fasten nut carefully. Thats it.

I made a special wrench to access the locknut, otherwise it would be difficult...
