Hi my name is allan,I have quite a few running classics but I am thinking of buying a tx750,(I already have an xs2, and a xs750f) Obviously I am aware of the lube/chain issues but I am thinking That a deeper sump will cure most ills and that an oil cooler wouldn't really be needed in the UK? The bike I am looking at has done 10,000 miles.your experienced opinions are vital!! Cheers Allan.

For me, a quality modern full-synthetic motorcycle oil should be all you need for peace of mind. The notoriety was mostly down to the mineral oils available in the 70s - Modern oils do a much bettor job these days. I'm using 10w60 in mine as recommended in posts on this forum.

Hello Allan, i am also in the southwest of england and have run txs for a while, mine has no cooler but i put quite a bit of work into the cylinder head and the oil system, i run 10- 50 fully synthetic oil as recommended by argo, a very knowledgable man who shares his knowledge, i have tl 1000 suzuki valve gear as run by nick clarke, again thanks too nick for sharing, the total weight saving in the valve train and cam is close to 30 ozs, i run the police spec cam cover which is 3lbs lighter than standard and has better cooling features, less mass, less friction, less load on the too small big ends and mains,i have straight through exhausts and run mikuni flatsides and ride the bike hard and the oil after a run is only tepid to touch, the people on this forum are excellent with assistance and thier advice can be trusted as it is tested,if your oil pumps are sound i dont see a problem and as for the deep sump i think its a waste as all it does is retains the oil at the source of the heat, i think argo has touched on this issue and he is far more knowledgable than me on the matter, to cool the oil it wants to be returned to the tank and this in turn means more frequent filtering, i have quite a few bits so if you are looking for a deep sump or filter conversion or head converted too tl valve gear give me a shout, the main issue is be careful what you buy and how they have been maintained, i ran a standard tx on fully synthetic with no mods and she was fine, just take your time buying because it will pay, try and find a later model if possible, it will be worth it, good luck and best regards miller

Hi Miller, I know about the porsche valve adjusters modification but have not heard of the TL1000 valve gear mod. Do you have a link to this item? Thanks Arjen from The Netherlands

Hello Arjen, im sorry no link its something i done off the cuff so to speak, i read nick clarke used the tl valves and went from there,it was not too difficult, new guides was the main issue as i had two so called engineers make some and they could not keep the central bore hole in line, the spring compression length was easy to work out but if you undertake the conversion you need four inlet valves ie 32mil and machine two for the exhaust as the suzuki ones are too short, i bought two used heads as this gave me the seats collets etc in one, if you want any info let me know and i will contact you by phone, there may be valves that fit but this was not difficult, regards jim

Hi,Not sure by what you mean standard trim! Its aYank import 750A. It has the deep sump,no oil cooler.I've fitted the Swiss (BMW) filter mod and am currently fitting a starter sprag clutch(suzuki). Fitted Dunstall type Exhausts,Tank and covers sprayed mettallic copper.
I'm also working on elimintating some of the slop on starter chain. This one has 8034 miles on clocks.
