Hello It appears my crankshaft was ground down to 37.5mm on the conrod connections (standard is 38mm according to the manual), not sure who or when this was done.
First question is can the crankshaft be repaired? is it possible to build it up with weld and regrind back down to the standard size. Then fit standard bearing shells.
Second question, is there over sized bearing shells available if the crank cant be built up with weld etc?
Third question, is there an alternative crankshaft available anywhere?
Appreciate any help/advise
Regards Mike

HI,
1) no, or if so, the machining woud cost a lot more than a good used crankshaft 2) i don`t think so 3) Nothing else fits
Look around on ebay, good used ones show up frequently.
Good luck!

I fitted bearings for a Renault 4 to my damaged crankshaft (metalsprayed and reground) many years ago. The locating tabs are on the wrong side so you have to modify them. Undersize should be available. It was a long time ago, before the internet.check the size before ordering. Hope this helps.
