Had another run on the TX today. Not smoking as much as it did. Not sure the motor sounds too good.

Just of late I have been unable to start my bike after turning it off in traffic, checking the charge rate I found, it wasn’t charging with the lights on, as I have been running with the lights on after a while the battery goes flat. Checking out the system I found the stator was down a phase and shorting to ground. I recall when I got the bike I fitted a starter sprag clutch from Argo, I noticed at the time some damage to the stator, but at that time it was charging OK. Sometime in the past, someone has had the rotor off and when refitting it has trapped the Woodruff key between the crank and the back of the rotor. See pics. This is was the imprint left. They had assembled it and tried to start it, this caused the damage you can see on the stator and inner coil. Finding one of the segments bent over into the wire coils I tried to source a new stator, I gave up, the cost to rewind was going to be too much, so, I managed to tap the damaged segment back out, a bit broke off as you would expect, cleaned and filled the gap with epoxy glue. Tested the stator coil, all good back to normal. Whatch this space, I’ll refit it tomorrow and see. Regards Rasputin.

Assembled today, ran and checked operation. Charging up to 14.5 volts with lights on. Great result. Got it on video, but file is too big to upload. Put it on TX750 FBook Page.
