Had another run on the TX today. Not smoking as much as it did. Not sure the motor sounds too good.

Hi all. After riding my TX 1500mls. I can hear a noise that seems to be coming from the top end of the engine. It sounds all the world like the oil deflector above the cam chain sprocket is loose. It is only a pressed tin part, if it were loose you can imagine that is the noise it would make. I am sure I have read somewhere that the tensioner can itself make a noise due to the step in the plunger slapping against the spring abutment. I can't find the relevant post that covers this. Anyone got any ideas. Thanks. Ian.

Ras - the only noise related issue I'm aware of is the one covered by Service Bulletin 335 but that relates to the tensioner itself, not a top end noise. The other one I'm aware (but can't find) relates to cutting off the end of the deflector which could be for noise purposes ?

Curiosity got to me, removed the tensioner and found when it's adjusted as per book the plunger rod and tensioner screw were in contact and had been clattering together. As the updated info on the tensioner gives a distance of 64mm from tip to larger diameter step, mine was 60mm I turned off 4mm of the large diameter. Then tried it, set s per book, when the engine is running the tensioner rod is in and out like jingo and noises. I put a neoprene collar on the rod and tried it. Makes it a lot quieter and when riding the rattling noise is much reduced.
