Does any one know if points from other bikes will fit? I'm thinking possible XS650 as numbers nearly match - or any bike with points that are easier to come by than the TX750 (TX500's are plentiful....but would they fit?)

I believe TX 500 uses a left and right set of points. The XS650 points are the same as the TX 750.

Hope that helps. While were on this subject, the Suzuki GS 400 with contact points use a 180 degree advancer(two cams) which can trigger one set of points to operate a TX750. You will require two 10mm X 13MM X 15MM bushings to make it a tight fit. You can then use a two outlet coil to keep from having to adjust two sets.


In my system I use a Honda GL 1000 coil with a Gammatronix box to reduce voltage and extend the life of the contacts and eliminate the condenser.

I own three of these bikes. Another one has a dual set of points and a dual set of Gammatronix modules. I had a lot of problems with consistent spark with old condensers, this eliminates the problem of old condensers, which are only a piece of foil in a capsule. For sure not a time capsule. All those old stock ones from the 70's are not the solution.

I tried fitting the Gammatronix units but I keep blowing one. After checking everything three times, I think my problem is that the wire to one of the units on one was too close to the spark plug HT lead - this is something they warn you about in their instructions.

Have you had any issues or do you have any advice ?

I've got a replacement unit, but I'm a bit reluctant to install it in case it's not the HT lead and I blow another one!

Sorry for the tardy response. I mounted mine behind the air box so that it would be far enough away. No issues, just go for it. I have attached a photo of my dual lobe contact cam which I will be using with an old GL1000 coil. If all goes well I will install a Gammatronix single unit to reduce the voltage at the points and get rid of the old condenser.
