Have any of you recently purchased crank bearings? I`d like to assemble the engine with a fresh set but it`s a little pricey and the only place I can think of is ebay, where I have to collect them piece by piece. Thanks for any input. Greg

Hi Greg
I asked the same question on the forum some time ago and got no response. I've only ever seen the bearings advertised on Ebay despite a lot of searching. I got lucky in that I found a bunch of new bearings in one of the many boxes of parts I inherited when I bought my bike (no spares unfortunately). Good luck with the search !

Hi JT,
OK, I`ll hunt down a set on ebay. I have some other problems here as well - which bearing do I need? For the main crankshaft bearing I can find out because I can see the numbers on the case and on the shaft clearly. However, regarding the rod bearing shells the manual refers to a stamped number on the conrod cap, but there`s no such thing, i have three sets of conrods though. Would you share with me how you found it out?

Speed and Sport is a good place to look, albeit a bit pricy. Speed and Sport

I only replaced the crankshaft bearings Greg, so I'm unsure about the conrod bearing identification sorry.

Thanks Jayteenz,
I think I will either have to buy an inner micrometer set or a set of conrods with the labels being intact. I don`t really see how to figure this out otherwise.

Hi Greg
I presume you have seen this service bulletin (via the old Toby Folwick site) ?
The use of "Plastigage" may be helpful to you ?
Connecting Rod Inserts Connecting Rod No. minus (-) Crankpin Journal No. = Connecting Rod Insert No. Example: If Connecting Rod No. is 5 and Crankpin Journal No. is 2, then, 5 - 2 = 3; No. 3 insert should be used. OIL CLEARANCE Oil clearance after installation may be determined by the "Plastigage" method. Correct oil clearance will be: Crankshaft bearings - .036 ~.059mm (.0014"~.0023") Connecting Rod bearings - .034~.057mm (.0013"~.0022")

Yeah, I thought about this. I can buy a set of each size that may work and check the clearance with plastigauge. It`s a little like gambling though.
