Hello All, Just bought a '73 TX at auction. Very nice condition but as they always say caveat emptor. Got it home, checked oil (low) and started it and knock knock knock (left) bigend and very smoky. So a rebuild is first order ... sigh! I understand sump was an issue for 73. Does anyone have a later 74 sump or know where to find one other than eBay of course. Should I consider any other mod's while it is apart? Last initial questions for the board - is there a supplier that has big end bearings, rings etc. or is this eBay again? Is there anything to watch for in taking them apart? Any help to improve the initial TX experience will be much appreciated. Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim, Welcome on board! I`m also in the middle of a complete overhauling of a TX engine including all the upgrades that allegedly fixed the catastrophic issues of the earlier versions. Deep sump is really hard to find, so is the adjustable balance chain system. You can find these sometimes on ebay, but they are not cheap. I managed to find an engine with no number on it, likely a replaced engine by yamaha in warranty . I`d like to keep the original engine though, so I`m rebuilding this one using three engine blocks now as donors. If you are interested in the progress take a look at the thread I started a while ago down here at projects. It`s great that you are in the L.A. area. I`m in North Cali, we can meetup somewhere in between when these things are functional Cheers, Greg

Thanks Greg,
Please keep me posted if you end up with any spare parts or sources for them. I'll be getting onto mine in the next few weeks! Pismo would be a great place to meet - halfway if they make it :-) !!! Tim

Besides ebay check Speed and Sport (link) for NOS parts. I'm on the central coast so we should get our TXs together!

The wine country sounds like a great ride - let's hope I can fix the TX's problems sometime soon! Thanks all for parts sources.
