Hey I just picked up one of these bikes and find it with no spark I’m getting power to the coils and I’m wondering where I should start since it looks like I’m not the first haha

Mike First: Check resistance of your coils, if they check out snip off a small amount of coil wire which is anchored at the base of the coil, corrosion can show up after 40 years.
Second; Check that your contact points have a good clean surface, not pitted and that the points open and close. File the contact points, or polish them up starting with 400 grit paper up to min.800 grit. Adjust your points and make sure they open and close as this allows the coil to charge and coil field to collapse and make spark when they open.
Third: Check all grounds, you may want to remove the condensor and clean the paint off the frame as the condensors also require a good ground. If your battery is not 95% charged you will have poor spark at the best of times.
That should give you enough to get started.

Just bought a '73 (orange) TX750, not running. I just set the (aftermarket, not OEM) points gap, but have a question. I've found that as the cam lobe turns, there are places where BOTH points are open (and closed) at the same time. There are also spots where one is open and the other is closed. But, it seems strange that both cylinder's plugs would fire at the same time. Unless of course Yamaha determined that firing one cylinder at the bottom of stroke, with no fuel or compression in that cylinder was not a big deal. Any thoughts on this? Is it worth the $$s to buy OEM Points?

Had another run on the TX today. Not smoking as much as it did. Not sure the motor sounds too good.

Boyer system works. The OD of the pickup plate needs reducing but the rest is straightforward.
