So, I found an old article from way back whenever about Accel ignition amplifiers for point systems. www.bridgestonemotorcycle.com/documents/Accel.pdfI do not have the money in my budget to upgrade my TX to a full digital ignition as I have two other project bikes in the pipeline. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ha, great minds must think alike. I'm looking at the same thing. The threads I posted on the Sachse thread look intriguing. I currently have a used Toyota distributor coming to see if the HEI system for the XS650 can work with the 750 as discussed in this link: xs650temp.proboards.com/thread/7899/19-junkyard-electronic-ignition#page=1. Off hand it looks like some machining will be necessary to get the reluctor to fit over the points cam, which would be necessary for keeping the mechanical advance. I'll know more when the distributor shows up. I'm also trying to see what's available inexpensively for an electrical advance to eliminate the mechanical advance. That option might be necessary if there is not enough material to work with on the points cam and the Toyota reluctor to get them to fit. The Accell/Mallory trigger units sound like they would work, and it also sounds like the points could be used to trigger a Ford TFI module. I believe that is referred to here (even though it refers to a phased crank system): xs650temp.proboards.com/thread/8018?page=1#page=1 Argo posted in the Sachse thread that he has a unit available that sounds interesting.

I resolved my issue with oil leakage in the points area.
Just trying to get this thing to fire like it should. Talking nice to it doesn't always work.

Hello, ' I have a simple electronic ignition made by my own (http://www.tobyfolwick.com/tx750/textual/pweiden1.php). In combination with iridium/platinum spark plugs the engine starts imediately cold or hot and there are no problems idling when the engine is hot.
Greetings Peter

Could you post the actual diagram of the electronic ignition you made. I do have access to the written details, but I can't find the diagram.
Thanks Claude

This is the original drawing of my transistor-ignition. In the meantime I made it a little bit more complex, if someone is interrested I'll make a new drawing. Greetings Peter

I ordered the boyer bransden unit for the xs650 - i emailed someone named Stuart who said it shoukd work with a little modification. Has anyone ordered or fit the unit to their TX750? Ill update after I succeed or fail... This link has instructions. Any insight is appreciated. www.650motorcycles.com/BoyerMicroPower.html

For all of you out there still running old points systems and having inconsistent spark and burning out points quickly.
I have replaced the condenser on my TX a packaged Yamaha part and had no improvement. Do not waste your money purchasing old condensers (old Yamaha parts) as by now the internals(piece of foil paper) has probably disintegrated.
I recently purchased and installed the dual Gammatronix kit from UK to eliminate the condenser and replace it with a built in capacitor to eliminate inconsistent spark and reduce the voltage at the points. It is easy to install and the increase in spark is impressive. This will allow points to function with little or no arcing.
This may be similar product to the diagram supplied on this link by pewe.
So if you do not want to build your own electronic ignition, but want a more consistent spark and reduce points maintenance you may want to consider this option.
Just remember to lubricate the wear mechanism on the points cam.

Just a comment for anyone using the original contact points and having points burn and short life span.(Like most of the TX's) The condensers are bolted to the frame which is painted. Poor ground will in effect reduce the ability of the capacitor to do it's job thereby creating an increase in arcing in between the contacts and reducing the life span of the points considerably. Clean off the paint on the frame and install an additional ground wire.
Poor ground will make for inconsistent spark and poorly charged coils and have a direct effect on engine performance.

Ref spark amplifier, I finally got mine to run, but not reliably......checked coils, cabling & condenser & all appeared ok (did suspect condenser as it is original), but the spark was weak & sometimes would not run on one cylinder........so, after some investigation (& this forum), found a guy on ebay selling an electronic spark amplifier for 40 of our British pounds, arrived & fitted today.......what a difference, fired up straight away, sounds better & as it says, no noticeable spark at the points (increased life), I only had it running a couple of times for about 5 mins each time, but keen to try it up & down our road now to see how it goes

If you check the voltage at the points it should now be milivolts which should make for longer life span. looks like similar set up as gammatronix but looks smaller which makes it nice to install This unit may produce a little more heat so keep an eye on it.
Should run great, don't forget to lube the point wear block. You are putting 12 volts directly at the coils now which also helps spark.

Thought I would run it up & down our road to see how it now goes (road is pretty quiet), started really easily, ticked over nicely, ran it up & down a few times......wow, really impressed, goes well, nice torque, changes gear ok (have changed clutch plates), brakes ok, plus bearing in mind this thing probably hasn't run in 40 years.
Is similar unit to Gammatronix, handy being smaller as would struggle to find somewhere to put it, but sits nicely in front of the indicator unit
