Hello to all. I just bought a complete bike needing carb and elec. work along with a parts bike and an extra engine. All '73 model. I read with interest Argo's excellent post about rerouting the oil passages to '74 spec. I have at least average mechanical skills having rebuilt car and bike engines. If any of you have done this mod to your cases and its not reassembled would you consider a video so I can be sure of how to go about it.Can countershaft adjustment be retrofitted to a '73? All said, by the time you do that and other upgrades are you better off looking for '74 cases? Just bought the deep oil pan off ebay. Is it really necessary with todays modern oils that do not foam up? Also, do any of you have an extra of the starter clutch and oil filter upgrade parts that you would like to sell. One final question, are the exhaust pipes pictured above on the blue bike available? Do you know someone who makes them? Is that a lot to respond too? I have enjoyed the character of old Brit and American bikes but hope to put together a smooth, non-vibey, fairly reliable bike with some torque. I'm willing to give this a try. Your help will be appreciated. How do you say Cheers in Japanese?

Welcome. The adjustable balance system should retrofit to the 73 cases. Check the tech bulletins, I believe there is one dedicated to the upgrade. Finding parts might be an issue. Some have reported that removing the balancer system entirely still results in a fairly smooth engine.
If you have the deep sump there is no reason not to install it. The only downsides are the need for one more gasket, reduced ground clearance, and the need to remove the sump prior to removing the engine from the frame. Modern oils might tolerate the shearing forces better than the old dino oils, but why not avoid it with a simple fix?
I can't remember where I saw the details, but the exhuasts look like the aftermarket replica Dunstil that go on a custom header. There was a set of SS oem replicas from Australia on ebay, but they were a bit pricey.
乾杯 ??
