My good intentions got derailed somewhere as I'd joined the forum back in July 2014 but never introduced myself. Seeing Jukka join at Argo's request and Boss post his Laverha details has spurred me to extract the digit.
As far as TX's go I bought one back in 1973 and had my first big off on it in 1974. It was rebuilt and I continued riding it until I traded it in on a Renault 15TS. Can you see a story of motoring eccentricity developing from that ?
The TX bug remained and eventually in 1990 I bought 2 x TX750’s and made one complete bike from them. It was running and I rode it for a couple of years before parking it to restore properly.
This started in 2011 and around that time I noticed a comment from a reader in a magazine called “Old Bike Australasia”. The writer reported on the annual TX Downunder Rally.
So I contacted the magazine editor who put me in touch with Harry Moses from Canada !!! Harry had come to Australia to ride in the rally and he ultimately put me in touch with Australian TX guru, Garry Hocking. In turn this has led to meeting many other confirmed devotees.
Garry rebuilt the motor so it has all his “go better” modifications along with offering plenty of advice and assistance. I also rode one of his bikes in the 2012 rally. Unfortunately, Melvin as the bike was known, suffered a nasty main bearing failure at speed. Thus I became known for some time as "Mal, the Melvin Killer".
My bike was finished in time to take it to the 2013 rally where it performed without fault. The photo was taken during this rally.
Somewhere along the way a TX Downunder facebook page was created so that we could stay in touch as well as encourage other owners to join to share experiences and information.
New forum member Jukka is not a member of TXDU although it was through strange twists that we met and other introductions have occurred. So I'd encourage Forum Members to think of joining TXDU irrespective of where you live as it is another avenue for great TX information.
