I actually have a follow on question. My service manual, 4th edition 12/73, 4th printing 11/78, on page 31 for the adjustment calls for bringing the push rod flush, then back in 3/4 of a turn. Service Bulletin 335, 7-25-73, says to leave the tensioner rod flush with the "new adjuster rod and additional damper washer". Since I have a '74, I assume it has the "new" adjuster and should therefore be adjusted flush, even though the service manual edition has a later published date than the bulletin. Is this correct?

When I got my TX running, I adjusted the cam chain like I do with my XS650 as they have the same style adjuster. Set it on as low idle as you can get, mine was at 800rpm. The pushrod will be moving slightly so turn in the adjuster so the pushrod is flush at it's furthest travel.
