Had another run on the TX today. Not smoking as much as it did. Not sure the motor sounds too good.

Hello all. Has anyone got any or all of the parts to upgrade the balancer chain and adjusting sprockets. Thanks in advance.

Hello Rasputin, Yep - managed to assemble all the parts mostly from the USA; took a while (a year...!) and was not cheap - especially factoring in the import duty, fees, etc to the UK. Used the parts list elsewhere on the forum and searched on Ebay by part number. Got the needle bearings from a standard bearing supplier. Most difficult to find were the large external locking washer - went for a used one in the end bought as part of a box of bits; study the pictures on Ebay to spot this prize! The large external lock nut was also difficult to find, but also got that in the end. '72 engine currently on the bench and in no hurry, so in case you need some dimensions etc of some of the bits I can give it a go. There are some differences in the casings between different TX750 years at the bottom of the blind hole/cavity where the adjustable shaft goes; so I had to make a special bush also. No, I had not had the engine running and also, before you ask, I'm not selling the bits! Good luck hunting down these parts.

Thanks for your responses. I now have all the parts I need to do the job. Dearest thing, new balancer chain £190. Last one at CMS NL. Had to alter some parts to fit my cases and make some of the bushes and sleeves. More later. Anyone know how to time the weights?

yeah the chains are always appallingly priced. do you have a manual? theres a guy on ebay that sells reprinted manuals for the TX, think hes based in Zealand, not cheap im afraid. i can photo the pages for the balance shaft timing if your stuck from my manual. if your timing your crank be careful to time the clutch and oil pump correctly, i have missed the timing marks a couple of times while working on the bike and had to re-time it, timing marks are not very clear.
also have you got the tech bulletins? i can supply them if you dont

Thanks. Bra725. I have done the timing of the weights, I thought the oil pump and clutch gear had marks but can’t see any on mine. I guess the crank has to be at full advance mark and the oil pump/ignition shaft lined up with the dowel hole when the clutch is slid on. If you have the relevant pages from the manual I would appreciate them. Thanks.

I used a timing chain from a Mini Cooper. It`s much better quality than the original Yamaha chain and should last much longer.

I used a timing chain from a Mini Cooper. It`s much better quality than the original Yamaha chain and should last much longer. Can you elaborate a bit more on that? Do you know the exact size of the chain? I feel that there is some confusion about the chain sizes. The starter chain is a DID 3/8" x 7/32" with 26 links. this is a normal industry size and widely available. The balancer chain is a Tsubaki 3/8"x 3/16". Pitch and roller diameter is the same so it might well be that the starter chain will fit the balancer. I called Tsubaki Motor Europe about this chain and the answer was that it was made specially for Yamaha and no longer available. There are some "go-kart" chains in this size which i wouldn't recommend, all from china. I wouldn't risk my motor with that. Curious what the mini cooper chain size is and how it perfoms. Cheers Arjen

As far as I made out the starter chain is the same spec as the balancer chain only two links shorter. I eventually bought a new chain from CMSNL €190 ouch. Mini timing chain is too wide between the inner plates. Yamaha chain is 5.2mm between the inner plates to suit the sprockets that are 5mm wide.

I know it has been a while since you posted this but would there be a chance for you to measure the dimensions of the parts circled in red below? Update March 2023: Spacer #14 thickness is 3.71 mm, OD is 23.73 mm and ID is 18.63 mm, hardened steel. Update November 2023: Collar #18 thickness is 19.00 mm, OD is 29.95 mm and ID is 15.95 mm, hardened steel with ground internal and external surfaces. Adjustable shaft collar nut #27 (P/N 90179-31055-00) is M31 x 1.5 mm, 14 mm thick with 40 mm collar (nut in picture is missing the collar), for a 35 mm wrench.
