I am presently rebuilding a 1974 TX engine. I have additional parts from another engine on hand which includes a similar set of connecting rods. Both sets are D5, or 5D however you want to read them.
The set I have on hand are from a 1973 engine and are marked 341 and have the letter L.
The set from the 1974 are stamped as follows one has 341 with letter N the other has 341 with letter O.
The set from the 1974 engine has a larger diameter connecting rod bolts which are not listed in any parts manual I have researched to date.
I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has found this discrepancy or update?
Thanks.

I have a 3rd edition (May 1974) parts manual and it does show 2 different connecting rod bolts. 341-11654-00 and 341-11654-01. Under the applicable machine number, it says 103061-.
Interestingly it only shows 1 connecting rod assembly for both years 341-11650-00. I have a new rod in my stock that has a part number of 341-11650-02. It has 341 Q on it.
Just south of you in Montana.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I was wondering if you could measure in mm. the size of the bolt of the new rod you have is your stock ending in -02. Nice pick up your bike btw! Sounds like you may have some parts inventory. This is my third rebuild on TX projects. I certainly appreciate the larger diameter bolts on the con. rods. The part numbers shown at partspitstop web site show 341-11650-01 for both 1973 & 1974.

I should be able to do that tonight or this weekend. I agree that having the larger bolts would be better. I do have one parts motor that is apart, and I will look at it too. I will be starting on my second TX next winter. My dad had a new one in 73 and it was the first bike that I was ever on.

The parts motor that I have (non serial number case) also has a Q rod in it. The other rod is missing or in a bucket I received with it. The bolt diameter right above the threads is 8.98mm on my new one and 8.96mm on the parts motor. Must be 9mm bolts. What size are the smaller bolts? The motor in my good 73 is a serial number motor that matches the VIN of the bike. The other 2 motors that I have are still assembled and are non serial number cases. I will use those to build a motor for my other 73. It will be interesting to see what rods are in those.

Thanks for getting back to me, I forgot to mention that my current project is a non serial number engine, so it sounds like your engine is also a factory replacement engine. This is may fourth TX,the first with a non-serial number engine.
