After reassembling my engine and starting it for the first time, I discovered oil was badly leaking out of my clutch push rod seal. After googling the issue and discussing it with a few engineer types at work, the main culprit turned out to be the push rod bush that sits in behind the seal itself. The bush had worn badly (common on the TX/XS650 and TX750) and this allows the push rod to flop around and damage the lips of the seal that keeps the oily stuff inside the engine.
The bush is not listed as a spare part but Mike's XS650 and Geoff's XS650 (in Australia) both sell them. Getting the old bush out is difficult (unless your crankcases are already split) and the best way I found was to use a sharp thin tool which I tapped in between the crankcase wall and the bush itself to bend it inwards to then allow you to grasp it with pliers. There is a video on Youtube that shows you how to do it (for a 650 but they are the same as the 750).
When it comes to fitting the new seal, make sure you grind away the crankcase at the seal entrance area as the crankcases have sharp edges and when you try to fit the seal these edges peel off the raised lip on the edge of the seal that locates it in the crankcase. Trust me - I know ! Just use a Dremmel or similar to grind the area edge to take off the 90 degree angle so that it is slightly rounded. Again there are Youtube videos on this.
Hope this may be useful and apologies to anyone who already these knows these tips.
Cheers - JT
