Has anyone had the following problem & how was it solved?
My kickstart only engages every now & again so I took off the cover expecting the worst but everything appears to be as it should with all the parts in place as per the manual!
So, I was wondering if the shaft moved out off the sprocket sometimes, which it obviously shouldn't, meaning it would need shimming......which it surely shouldn't?? Will do some measuring tomorrow!
cheers Roy

Well everything looks ok, pulled kick start mechanism to check & all looks fine, refitted & aligned as per the manual, refitted cover & it worked.......for a while!! Now I'm wondering if it's the clutch that is the problem as it won't free off (too many years sat in oil no doubt) so will probably need to replace the friction plates!!!!
Anyone know if plates from an XS650 will fit, as can get them easier & cheaper than TX ones?

Hi Roy, Not sure if you had noticed but TX does not have a kickstart that will work when clutch is pulled in, just as a brit bike is, not like a jap bike as you would have expected that you can kickstart in gear with clutch pulled in, I know that this is not what you are talking about but can cause confusion sometimes. Cheers Paul in not so sunny Norfolk (UK)

Ok guys, desperate for some help now, replaced the clutch plates, set up the kickstart (again!!) & all seems ok, good compression & kicks over nicely........that was until I put it on the main stand to work on it (not sure why) but tried the kick again, lo & behold nothing! Thought I'd try an experiment so 3 or 4 times I went from side stand to main stand, each time on side it kicked fine but not on the main (I know not totally scientific as I need to do it more, but.......), so now I'm totally flumuxed!! Someone out there must have an idea surely?

Could it be something to do with the clutch still??

Roy, there must be something with the gear or the axle, so the gear does not slide on the axle easily when it turns. Probably somehow gravity contributes to the engagement. Look at the mechanism carefully, something is not positioned properly or the axle is bent.

Hello Roy, have you checked the kick clip, these weaken easily and the symptoms are common to this complaint, they are easily available and not exspensive, same as XS 650

Hi Yamman, kick clip looks ok, is there anything specific I should be looking for?

Read that loose or worn 'could' be the problem (tried bending but spring steel so not easy)....have bitten the bullet & ordered another!

the reason your kickstart is engaging on the side stand is because that is the way the gear travels to engage, in the horizontal or mainstand position the kick clip guides the gear , hope your purchase is the solution,
