Hi - I'm pretty certain my charging system isn't working. After about 10 minutes of running my bike kills, and won't restart. I just installed the Elektronik Sachse ignition system, and completed a carb rebuild a few weeks ago. Until then, I wasnt really sure if everything was working correctly or if my hard starting issues were causes by a timing or carb issue.
I know the electronic ignition doesnt work when the battery is low, which is how I realized my charging system is weak/bad, the battery discharges to the point it kills.
My question is how do I go about diagnosing the problem to ensure Im not throwing money at something thats not broken? The charging is all contained in the stator/mangeto, right? I should be able to check that and replace if necessary to solve any charging issue, or could the voltage regulator be part of the problem as well?
One more question - can I upgrade to a rectifier/regulator from a late 70s or early 80s XS650/750?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
