I have a later set(78/79) of BS38s Im going to put on my 73 TX. Im pretty certain they came off of an XS650 (aka tx650), anyone fit a newer set to their bikes before? I think the jetting should be fine, but may have to change my needle height depending on if it's too lean. But either way theyll work, Im just trying to avoid f-ing around with them more than necessary. The carb bodies on the set I plan to fit are slightly different, and the needle jets, jet needles, mains, and pilots are not the same as the early 70s. Stock for thr 78/79 set are 135 main, 27.5 pilot, z2 needle jet, and 502-3 needles. Any insight or opinions are valued. TxRp.

Update on the late model xs650 carbs. They are jetted too lean for the 750, also, the distance between the two carb bodies is different (wider) on the TX, so the rail and top connecting plates dont work. However, i got thr bike to start and run relatively well with them on it - Im waiting on an electronic ignition I recently ordered to donthe full test, my timing is off and Im not interested in playing with it anymore.
I do have a quesrion about buterfly size in the BS38s - anybody know why/how the difference in types in the different carbs. I have 115s in the stock carbs, several sets of carbs with 120s, and a set with 125s. Just wondering what the difference is and why?
When I look at the parts fiche there is no mention of any difference. The manual has the size listed, but no indication if they can be sized up or down.
Anybody have any ideas or experience with this?
