After Yamaha decided to discontinue production of the TX750, they began marketing its replacement, a 750cc three cylinder. Yamaha must have learned a lot from the failures on the TX750 because the 750 Triple had a successful 7 year production run. The XS750 engine was well refined with few problems and minor upgrades throughout its life. For 1980 and 1981 the engine received larger pistons increasing the displacement to 826cc.
Below is a photo of my 1979 XS750 which I have converted to a café racer. The engine has about 25000 kms on it and it appears to have never been opened up. The engine runs very strong and emits very little mechanical noise.
I believe Yamaha did their homework before they brought this bike out to the public.
