My 73 calls for 6303 front wheel bearings. I've read on the forum to upgrade to the 6303 2RS, which is the rubber shields. So I buy some off of ebay for what I thought was a great deal. When I get them, they do say Koyo. But no 6303 anywhere to be found. They say 282. And they are in a plain white box. No Koyo marking anywhere. Now I believe I could get my money back if I wanted to, since they were listed as 6303 bearings. I googled the Koyo 282 and it specs out the same. Am I being to anal. Should I just run these. Are they as good of a bearing. Or is the quality reflected by the price. I don't think I could get another pair of 6303's for the price I paid let alone a lot of 5 like I got. I'm kinda wondering if the could be counterfeit. You guys every see/use these Koyo 282's. Here's the ebay auction. www.ebay.com/itm/181498928973And obligatory pic's of the bearing. Please advise.

Herd to say about the counterfeit. I do know that bearings are one of the most often counterfeit items, and legit bearing houses will have counterfeit items on their shelf beside real ones without even knowing it. There is some infiltration in the supply chain somewhere. Even American bearing companies like Timken have problems.
I would do a google search for identifying the specific model counterfeit bearing, or even contact Koyo. They are big enough and I am sure they are aware of and sensitive to the issue. Often there will be a number somewhere on the bearing that counterfeiters miss or can't replicate, and that is the indication.
Deals can be had though, who knows, maybe this is just leftovers of some project stock and they are cleaning up space.

Most of the bearings being sold on eBay are counterfeit purchased by the seller through Alibaba. I think some of the sellers think they are selling the real thing. I learned the hard way after failure of a Koyo wheel bearing and checking by an authorized Koyo distributor that it was counterfeit purchased from an eBay seller with high positive ratings. Buy a counterfeit watch and it probably will keep time but if not so what. If a bearing fails your life could be in jeopardy.
